Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra

America's Oldest Community Orchestra

The Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering orchestral music to our surrounding communities and is based in Weymouth, MA. We depend upon your generosity so that we can continue to bring classical music to the South Shore of Massachusetts. Your donation is greatly appreciated and helps keep classical music alive in our communities. Thank you!

The Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra was organized in 1915 as the Whitman Orchestral Club. By having performed concerts for every year since its inception, the Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra is the "oldest continuing community orchestra in the nation".

Its purpose remains to provide fun and experience for amateur musicians of all ages and levels of accomplishment. Our orchestra includes members who’s ages range from fifteen to ninety. A particularly gratifying result of the past 102 years has been the number of young people who have progressed through the orchestra. Many musicians have remained members of the group for decades.

The Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra has operated under the leadership of Robert C. Babb for thirty-seven seasons. Our goal as a community orchestra is to promote a strong and widespread interest in music for the Town of Weymouth and surrounding communities on the South Shore.
